The Two Worlds of Rosa Branco

Two worlds have always intertwined in my life: the material and the spiritual, and I have tried to bring them together. I began my scientific career immediately after graduating from college, entering the highly hierarchical environment of managers at USA/NASA. I worked on developing safety systems of critical importance for successive crewed missions traveling into orbit aboard the Space Shuttle. In that environment, precision, logic, and systems thinking dominated. At the same time, I carried within me profound spiritual experiences that had been with me since childhood. When I was a very young girl, I experienced an accident that could have ended in my death. Fortunately, spiritual beings had other plans for me.

I was born into a large family of Portuguese immigrants who came to the United States from the Azores. When I was two years old, while playing in the kitchen, I was severely burned by hot coffee over almost my entire body. The pain was so intense that I immediately lost consciousness and left my body, entering a nonphysical realm. I remember very clearly my distraught mother, and later the nurses and doctors, trying to save me. Throughout that dramatic time, I was accompanied by a luminous being filled with warmth and heavenly love. After some time, I returned to my aching body and regained consciousness. I had suffered second-degree burns.

Many years later, I came to understand that I had been at the threshold of death and that it was only the presence of that luminous being that caused me to decide to return. Today, the scars remaining from that event are barely visible. I have never been ashamed of them because I regard them as a testimony to the power of spiritual healing and as a symbol of my destiny — my mission to help others.

My life has been a series of highs and lows that led me toward personal transformation and opened my heart so deeply that even all of modern science would be unable to explain it. I came to understand that the healing process does not take place only on the physical or intellectual level. It also requires processes involving our emotions, feelings, and spirituality. Although I eventually left my work at the Space Agency, I knew very clearly that my destiny was not to abandon science, but rather to build a bridge between what is analytical and intellectual and what comes directly from the heart or contains a spiritual element. I decided that I would help people reconnect with who they truly are.

For me, the process of remembering means returning to the truth of who we are beneath the layers of fear, pain, conditioning, and the sense of separation. I believe that people are not broken; rather, they have become disconnected from themselves — from love, peace, and wisdom. Remembering is not about becoming someone different or someone new. It is about removing the layers that caused us to forget our worth, our inner light, our humanity, and our connection with the transcendent force that belongs to us and defines us. Only when people begin to remember who they truly are do they have the opportunity to activate their natural process of self-healing.

We live in a world filled with noise, pressure, agitation, fear, and an excess of stimulation. We see many people functioning extremely well in the external world while being completely unaware of their internal and emotional exhaustion. In an age in which we are surrounded everywhere by the Internet and social media — which were supposed to connect us — many peoplefeel lonelier than ever before. People long for silence, for

authenticity in expressing their feelings, and for genuine relationships with other human beings. They want to feel safe enough to open their hearts. Many of us carry emotional wounds that we have never truly been able to experience fully and heal. My task is to create a space in which people can slow down, breathe, find their way back to themselves, and begin listening to what is within them.

It was then that I also understood — and this is something I try to communicate to my students — that healing is not simply about removing pain. The healing process can begin at the moment when, perhaps for the first time in a very long while, we feel truly seen, loved, accepted, and reunited with ourselves, with our family, and with the world in which we live.

The heart of each of us is a natural magnet that gathers and collects all of our good and difficult feelings and emotions. I have come to realize that beneath fear, anger, trauma, and emotional pain, most people are hiding very simple needs: the need to be loved, to feel safe, to be understood, and to feel that they matter.

Many of us carry a quiet pain within ourselves that we rarely speak about. The heart is extraordinarily strong and resilient in the face of the blows life gives us, but when it cracks or is broken, all of our emotional traumas begin to make themselves heard and can initiate a process of self-destruction. Fortunately, at any moment we are capable of stopping that process.

More than twenty-five years of working with spiritual healing has taught me that sometimes a single moment of compassion, genuine presence, or sincere connection is enough to begin transforming someone’s life. The human mind very easily forgets the good moments while feeding us tragedies. The heart remembers everything, while also allowing us to see the brighter side of life.

When someone begins to heal emotionally, they also become open to their own intuition, inner wisdom, and spiritual awareness. Negative experiences cause us to close ourselves off, separating us from the joyful aspects of existence. We lose our clear perception of objective reality and begin focusing exclusively on fear and on protecting the remaining light within us. Spiritual guidance can help by pointing toward a way out of that mental labyrinth.

By this, I mean opening ourselves to trust, wisdom, love, and guidance that already exist within us — not blindly handing our personal power over to someone else. The more deeply we engage in our own emotional healing, the more deeply we reach into the layers of our own consciousness.

Most people associate a spiritual guide or teacher with someone who overwhelms them with a flood of information and inspirational sayings. During my meetings, I offer students the experience of connecting with themselves. I love observing their spontaneous reactions when they begin to realize just how deeply emotional and filled with inner peace the experience can be.

They often tell me that they finally felt appreciated and seen in a way they had not expected; that they received support and, with it, the opportunity to connect with emotions they had hidden for years. Some people need, more than anything, to experience genuine inner silence. Everyone experiences this differently, but many later speak of feeling lightness and being filled with hope that everything in their lives will work out.

People walking a path of personal or spiritual development sense that the old ways of living have exhausted themselves and lead nowhere. Most of us are completely worn down by stress, professional and financial pressures, social divisions, and a sense of separation from our own inner world and from nature. We increasingly long for something more meaningful, more human, and more deeply rooted in spirituality.

Such transformation is not a luxury reserved for a chosen few. It is a necessity for everyone seeking emotional and spiritual well-being — a process of inner awakening in which I play my own modest part. My task is to remind people that everyone is worthy of love, that they have never been and never will be alone, and that they still carry enormous reserves of inner light within their hearts, regardless of how much pain or fear they may have experienced in life. I would like people to remember that they are far more powerful, beautiful, and connected with themselves and with others than they may be able to imagine.

I remember to remain grounded in prayer, to stay in silence, to spend time in nature, and to remember that I, too, am human and am still learning. I nurture my connection with my own heart and maintain humility toward everything that happens in my life.

I have already mentioned spending time in silence, but I will repeat it because I know how important it is to provide ourselves with moments of absolute silence every day — silence that allows us to listen to ourselves and to others. We should not drown that silence in unnecessary words or fill that blessed emptiness with noise. We should learn to spend meaningful time with the people we love. And we should remember gratitude, because gratitude also helps us maintain our inner balance.

Many healers or spiritual teachers want to distinguish themselves in some way, but that is not my path. People are often surprised by how natural and ordinary I am. I love laughter, fun, and spontaneous conversation. Healing does not have to be something terribly serious. Sometimes a feeling of closeness and the expression of warm feelings toward one another are enough.

Although my work focuses on difficult subjects such as releasing trauma and inner transformation, deep in my soul I simply care about other people. During the years when I worked at NASA, I was essentially doing the same thing. Using the latest scientific discoveries and technological achievements, I contributed my part toward ensuring the safety of crewed missions traveling into orbit. In this way, life taught me that spirituality and technology are not separate from one another, but can complement each other.

I believe people need inner peace, emotional safety, and hope. They need a space where they can stop playing roles and simply be themselves. They are hungry for authenticity. They long for experiences that can help them reconnect with themselves and with others, and to rediscover a sense of meaning in their existence at a deep level. And more than anything else, they long not to feel alone.

Thank you, and my warmest greetings to all the readers of Nieznany Świat.
